KANG SEOK-HO: MONOLOGUE: Mimesis Museum of Art

8 August - 29 September 2015
Overview

“Monologue,” Kang Seok Ho’s solo exhibition was on view from August 8, 2015 until September 29, 2015, comprising two spaces that make up the third floor wing of the Mimesis Art Museum in Paju, South Korea. Two different torso series are paintings from photos of people appearing in TV current affairs programs or newspapers, while cutting off their faces or parts of their faces. Faceless figures on the canvas reveal their social position or occupation with elaborate or epic hand gestures, along with accessories such as necklaces, boxing gloves, hibiscus flowers, or ties. The simplified compositions of the torso are representative of Kang Seok Ho’s aesthetic approach and method in painting.
