Press release

We hope that this message finds you all healthy and safe amid this time of uncertainty. Within this crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, which spans across all borders and cultures, it has never been more important to find ways to give back however possible. We at Tina Kim Gallery are committed to contributing to the global response using the tools and partnerships available to us. In this unprecedented historical moment, we must find ways to remain connected within our communities, as well as to humanity as a whole. The COVID-19 pandemic is a harsh reality we all share. In response, the gallery is happy to announce the launch of Tina Kim Gallery Presents: Art Without Borders.

During this campaign, Tina Kim Gallery will donate 100% of net proceeds from the sale of limited edition collectible tea towels to support Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF)’s COVID-19 response. These special editioned objects will be printed on fine quality cotton and feature images of works by seven of the gallery’s unique and international roster of artists--Ha Chong-Hyun, Park Seo-Bo, Suki Seokyeong Kang, Davide Balliano, Kibong Rhee, Kim Tschang-Yeul, and Ghada Amer. Each piece will be in an edition of 100 and the campaign will run from May 4 and until all pieces have sold out. Tina Kim Gallery has committed to a minimum donation of $10,000, and our goal is to reach $100,000.

Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international medical humanitarian organization delivering care to those most in need. Its team of over 43,000 doctors, nurses, logisticians, epidemiologists, mental health professionals, administrators, and others assist people caught in crises around the world. MSF’s independent, neutral and impartial funding allows the organization access to patients in conflicts where others cannot go. It serves no agenda other than delivering quality medical care.

MSF teams are responding to COVID-19 on multiple fronts – caring for patients, offering health education and mental health support, and providing training for vital infection control measures in health facilities around the world. MSF’s response to COVID-19 is evolving rapidly. MSF is opening new projects in response to COVID-19 and adapting existing ones to help cope when cases are identified.

As MSF scales up its response to the COVID-19 pandemic, a key priority is to keep its more than 400 medical programs running for the tens of thousands of patients and extremely vulnerable communities they help support. This pandemic threatens the lives of people around the world, and presents even greater risks in countries with weak or fragile health systems. Tina Kim Gallery’s donations generated from this campaign will ensure MSF can help those afflicted by the COVID-19 pandemic and its consequences while maintaining their other lifesaving work in other countries. It is a great privilege to be able to contribute to the global efforts to combat this public health crisis, and to do our part to aid in abetting the suffering of those around the world. We thank you, as part of our community, for supporting these efforts, as well as the seven artists participating in this project.
